تَصْرِيْفُ الْأَمْرِ وَ النَهْيِ
0 / 48For the following passages from the Qasas book, grammatically analyse all of the sentences. You can mark your answers periodically, but try not to view the actual answer until you've tried your best and are unable to get all of the marks for a question. The more time you spend trying to figure out the answers on your own, the more it will benefit you over the long time.
For Question 2, you have a negative question. A negative question is in the form, "Is it not the case that...", or "Did he not say...". In this case, saying might not mean what you think. Saying in both of these questions would mean, "No. It is not the case that..." and "No, he did not say that...". If you wanted to confirm instead you would use the word istead. In that case it would be, "Yes, is is the case that...", and "Yes, he did say...". In Arabic they take the question literally. Did he not say he wants to eat? i.e. Is it true he did not say that he wants to eat. would literally mean, "Yes, it is true that he did not say he wants to eat." But in English when we ask the question we are asking it from the opposite angle. When we ask, "Did he not say he wants to eat?", we are thinking that he did in fact say he wanted to eat, and we are asking for confirmation of that fact. So yes for us means, "Yes, it is true he did say he wants to eat." Quite interesting the difference between the two!
And Ibrahim recognised that Allah is his Lord
And Allah guided Ibrahim and made him a Prophet and an intimate friend.
And Allah commanded Ibrahim to call the people and prohibit them from worshipping idols.
